THE GYMJAM TRAINING PROGRAM
GymJam is directed by Olympic Coach and Olympic Competitor, Chris Waller. Chris's unique achievement and enthusiasm inspires every future champion at camp. Chris has developed a world class training program to benefit all levels of gymnasts by emulating the training of the best athletes in the world, while modifying it to suit the needs of every camper. Campers have up to six hours of training per day, including scheduled event rotations and event-choice workouts. Gymnasts are placed into workout groups appropriate for their skill levels and then positively motivated to help them achieve their individual goals and realize their potential.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN?
Because campers are divided up by level, campers learn skills that are challenging and appropriate. Training focuses on new skills, improving skills, review of fundamentals, dance (for girls), sports psychology, team building, and a whole lot of fun. Basic skills are reinforced to help build a stronger gymnastics foundation. GymJammers safely learn new skills through the use of skill progressions, foam pits, excellent matting, belt spotting, trampoline based drills, and hand spotting. Team based activities teach campers how to be a better team mate and be more successful because of it. GymJam’s staff aspects of sports psychology including competitive readiness, mental preparation, focus, fear, and motivation. Gymnasts will get to embrace performing when they get to sign up as one of the stars of the Daily Show – The Daily Show is when campers show off their new or improved skills to the entire camp! At the end of camp, GymJammers will get a Camper Evaluation, which will identify camper’s strengths and areas of needed improvement.
GOAL SETTING
Gymnasts are asked to come to camp with personal goals written in their training log. Setting goals for camp help teach how to constructively set and pursue goals. With the positive GymJam atmosphere being viral, campers are often amazed at how many goals they can achieve during camp! When GymJammers learn a new skill, they get to show their new skill to an Olympian and ring the "new skill bell"!
